Psalm 131 - Lord, my heart is not haughty, nor mine eyes lofty: neither do I exercise myself in great matters, or in things too high for me. Surely I have behaved and quieted myself, as a child that is weaned of his mother: my soul is even as a weaned child. Let Israel hope in the Lord from henceforth and for ever.

Part 1

Mark 5:1-12 - And they came over to the other side of the sea, into the country of the Gadarenes. And when he was come out of the ship, immediately there met him out of the tombs a man with an unclean spirit, Who had his dwelling among the tombs; and no man could bind him, no, not with chains: Because he had been often bound with fetters and chains, and the chains had been plucked asunder [broken apart] by him, and the fetters broken in pieces: neither could any man tame him. And always, night and day, he was in the mountains, and in the tombs, crying, and cutting himself with stones. But when he saw Jesus afar off, he ran and worshipped Him, And cried with a loud voice, and said, What have I to do with You, Jesus,You Son of the most high God? I adjure Thee by God, that Thou torment me not. For He [Jesus] said unto him, Come out of the man, you unclean spirit. And He [Jesus] asked him, What is your name? And he answered, saying, My name is Legion: for we are many. And he [the demon] besought [begged] Him much that He would not send them away out of the country. Now there was there nigh unto the mountains a great herd of swine [pigs] feeding. And all the devils besought Him, saying, Send us into the swine, that we may enter into them.

Once this man (possessed with Legion – many demons) saw Jesus, he ran and worshiped Him.

#1 - Pondering this testimony, notice that this was the only time that this man was under controlled submission to anyone.

Every knee will bow and every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord. - Philippians 2:9-11

When Christ is present, things are called into order – His order, not man's. Christ's order stands firm, no one and nothing can change it. His order changes people, changes things, and every being must submit to it, willingly or not.

Pondering #2 – Those demons did not destroy the man – in the way of killing him; but they caused the swine (pigs) to run down a steep place and drown in the sea when they went into them.

It could have been the man who ran down and threw himself into the sea and died... Why wasn't it?

Demons are not always looking to kill the person because they need a body to live in so they can do their evil work here on earth. Also, God said,

Behold, all souls are mine - Ezekiel 18:4

God knew what this man would do after he was healed and He knew that the cry of the man's soul was to be set free. Jesus said He came to set the captive free.

After Jesus had healed him, the man wanted very much to stay with Jesus, to go with Him wherever He went. However, Jesus did not allow him, but said to him: Go home to thy friends, and tell them how great things the Lord hath done for thee, and hath had compassion on thee. The man did what Jesus told him.

Simple faith, simple obedience, glorious testimony!

And all men did marvel. - Mark 5:20

Part 2

Mark 5:25-34

25 And a certain woman, which had an issue [flow] of blood twelve years,

26 And had suffered many things of many physicians, and had spent all that she had, and was nothing bettered [not made better], but rather grew worse,

27 When she had heard of Jesus, came in the press [crowd] behind, and touched His garment.

28 For she said, If I may touch but His clothes, I shall be whole.

29 And straightway [right away] the fountain [flow] of her blood was dried up; and she felt in her body that she was healed of that plague.

30 And Jesus, immediately knowing in Himself that virtue [strength] had gone out of Him, turned Him about in the press, and said, Who touched My clothes?

31 And His disciples said to Him, You see the multitude thronging You, and You say , Who touched Me?

32 And He looked round about to see her that had done this thing.

33 But the woman fearing and trembling, knowing what was done in her, came and fell down before Him, and told Him all the truth.

34 And He said to her, Daughter, your faith has made you whole; go in peace, and be whole [healed] of your plague.

This woman, who was with an affliction for 12 years, and suffered many things of many physicians, was with simple faith made whole, completely well.

And straightway [immediately] the fountain of her blood was dried up; and she felt in her body that she was healed of that plague.

She, fearing and trembling, knew what had happened in her body by her act of faith – meaning she behaved in faith – it is just that simple.

The obstacles come when a person thinks "this just can't be that easy, there must be something more to it".

A human tries to measure faith according to their knowledge of measures: cups, quarts, gallons; inches, feet, yards; meters, liters, etc.

Jesus, after she confessed / gave testimony of what He (the Lord) had done in her, said to her, Daughter, your faith has made you whole; go in peace, and be whole of your plague.

What was her measure of faith? God knows by His measure, for God does not see as man sees, for man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart. (1 Samuel 16:7)

Be it unto you according to your faith (Matthew 9:29).

Your faith has saved you. Go in peace. (Mark 5:34)

Part 3

Mark 5:35 to the end

35 While He yet spake, there came from the ruler of the synagogue's house certain which said, Your daughter is dead: why do you trouble the Master any further?

36 As soon as Jesus heard the word that was spoken, He said to the ruler of the synagogue, Be not afraid, only believe.

37 And He suffered [permitted] no man to follow Him, save [except] Peter, and James, and John the brother of James.

38 And He came to the house of the ruler of the synagogue, and saw the tumult, and them that wept and wailed greatly.

39 And when He was come in, He said to them, Why make ye this ado, and weep? the damsel is not dead, but sleeps.

40 And they laughed Him to scorn. But when He had put them all out [made them all leave], He took the father and the mother of the damsel, and those that were with Him, and entered in where the damsel was lying.

41 And He took the damsel by the hand, and said to her, Talitha cumi; which is, being interpreted, Damsel, I say unto you, arise.

42 And straightway [right away] the damsel arose, and walked; for she was of the age of twelve years. And they were astonished [amazed] with a great astonishment.

43 And He charged them straitly [gave strict instructions] that no man should know it; and commanded that something should be given her to eat.

Jesus told the ruler of the synagogue, Be not afraid, only believe. Be not afraid of what? Afraid of losing his daughter; maybe even afraid that Jesus would be unable to do anything if she died. The man was already afraid for his daughter because of her sickness and went to Jesus because he knew He could heal her, but death?

O death where is thy sting? O grave where is thy victory? (1 Corintians 15:55)

Jesus overcame death with power. He said, I am come that you might have life... (John 10:10)

In Mark 5:39, Jesus said, the damsel is not dead, but sleeps. This is the same that He said about Lazarus. I asked my pastor one day: "Where did the souls go when they died?" He told me, at the time he hadn't really studied on that in particular, but that when the Lord had something He wanted to do, [He made a way for it to happen – I don't recall the words the pastor used verbatim, but this was essentially what he said].

The Lord making a way is true for all of the works that Jesus did - and the apostles, as the Holy Spirit moved in them, that is what they did. They went about preaching the gospel for the salvation of lost souls and in the midst of this work of Salvation, the Holy Spirit of Christ working in them, moved upon them to heal the sick, raise the dead, and cast out devils.

By simple faith, obedience to God.

Through reading these scriptures, the Lord was speaking to my heart – the simplicity of the Gospel, the simplicity of faith and obedience for the purpose of salvation of souls is what God wants from us.

Glory to God!! Thank You, Jesus for the plan of Salvation!

Amen.

If you want to know Christ as your Lord and Savior, then pray a simple prayer of faith.

- Ask Him to wash you clean from your past sins with His blood.

  • Confess with your mouth and believe in your heart that Jesus Christ is the Son of the Living God, that He was crucified and rose from the grave, and He sits at the right hand of God the Father.

  • Believe that what you are asking will be done according to His sovereign will according to His Word.

  • Ask Him to come live in you and make His home in you. Give thanks to Him, bless His name.

  • Then, go and sin no more.

  • Seek God through His Word, talk to Him in prayer, live for Him daily, and you will have life more abundantly in Christ Jesus.

Please let us know if you have received Christ into your heart so we can rejoice with you.

If you have any questions about how to live for Him, we would be glad to answer your questions as God enables us.

May the name of the Lord be praised both now and forever.

Amen.
