I read this morning (as the Lord put it on my heart to read) from Genesis chapters 28-29 and have seen: when God blesses you, it is much more worthwhile than anything man can give to you. His blessings are so much greater and carry so much more weight. They carry more significance than anything man can ever think to give. God's gifts reach to the heart, the very core of our innermost being.
A dear sister recently shared with me Psalm 37:4, Delight thyself also in the Lord and He shall give thee the desires of thine heart. I read this entire Psalm not long afterwards. It is quite refreshing, in fact, full of promise. God's name be praised for ever and ever. When God gives blessing to His people, His Word says: The blessing of the Lord, it maketh rich, and He addeth no sorrow with it (Proverbs 10:22).
God gave His promise of blessing to Jacob in a time when he needed it most. God promised him prosperity and to be with him: And behold, I Am with thee, and will keep thee in all places whither thou goest, and will bring thee again into this land; for I will not leave thee, until I have done that which I have spoken to thee of (Genesis 28:15). This is a beautiful thing, especially when considering that God knew Jacob's heart, therefore He knew Jacob only wanted the basic necessities and protection, and he said if God would be with him and supply those needs, then the Lord shall be my God (see Genesis 28:20-21).
God, when He looked down from Heaven, saw Leah (Jacob's wife) in her time of affliction when she felt that no one cared for her soul and no one could give her what her soul longed for, except the Lord; the Lord blessed her and gave her children. She knew the Lord was ministering to her deepest heartfelt needs.
She said: Surely the Lord hath looked upon my affliction
Because the Lord hath heard that I was hated, He hath given me [a second] son also.
By the time the fourth son came, Leah said: Now will I praise the Lord!
Psalm 34:1, 2, 3 – I will bless the Lord at all times: His praise shall continually be in my mouth. My soul shall make her boast in the Lord: the humble shall hear thereof and be glad. O magnify the Lord with me, and let us exalt His name together.
May the Lord be praised from this time forth and even forevermore! Amen and amen.
Psalm 66:4 – All the earth shall worship Thee, and shall sing unto Thee; they shall sing to Thy name. Selah.
Psalm 113:5-9
Who is like unto the Lord our God, who dwelleth on high,
Who humbleth Himself to behold the things that are in heaven, and in the earth!
He raiseth up the poor out of the dust, and lifteth the needy out of the dunghill;
That He may set him with princes, even with the princes of His people.
He maketh the barren woman to keep house, and to be a joyful mother of children.
